A Remedy

Updated: Jan 19, 2021

I was in disbelief after our country's events: the beginning of the decline of personal freedom, censorship, and the outbreaks of violence, disregard for our Constitution. These types of events do not happen in a country of God-fearing people, but rather are the fruits of decades of decline in belief in God, lack of respect for his creation, including human life, and self-centeredness, to name a few problems with the flesh. St. Paul highlights more in Galatians 5:19-21. Instead, I would rather focus on the qualities of life in the Holy Spirit as outlined in his letters to the Galatians 5: 22-26. It is in God's life that we find freedom. American was created "One Nation Under God" and finds its real purpose in these words by our founding fathers. These founding fathers were well aware of human nature, having come from an oppressive situation in and with England. Less we forget our American History. Consequently, we all have a stake in our country. Many of us would not be here if our ancestors did not immigrate to America in search of a better life and religious freedom.

While you may wonder why a chaplain is writing about a political issue, it is clear that American, the land that I love, has fallen from grace. Much like the times of St. Paul in his travels to evangelize the Gentiles, we need to change our immoral ways. We need repentance. God has allowed us to have our way, but only for so long in every period of history. The Old Testament and New Testament books are filled with God’s retribution when His people have gone too far. It is left up to the people God calls to help remedy the situation. Therefore I am asking you to please join me in reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet beginning Monday, January 11, 2021, and ending Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 3:00 pm EST. This Chaplet is the work of Saint Maria Faustyna “Faustina” Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament. She was a Polish Roman Catholic nun and mystic. Her apparitions of Jesus Christ inspired the Roman Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy. [edited from Wikipedia taken January 10, 2021 @2:48 EST] I have enclosed a link that includes the prayer intentions for the nine-day novena using the Rosary https://saintmichael.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/divine-mercy-novena.pdf. This novena implores Our Lord for forgiveness and mercy, two actions we desperately need at this time. May God put this request on your heart. Peace.
